Market Access Training Seminars a Great Success in Tanzania

Zachary Rozga of WHL Consulting recently returned from a three-week trip through Tanzania, Africa where he conducted market access training seminars as part of a project managed by WHL Consulting financed by the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) to assist the development of tourism product providers to respond to the growing independent travel market in Tanzania.

Accompanying Zachary on a travel through three main tourism areas in Tanzania was Jennifer Aston, Director of the Africa regional office of whl.travel and Anjali Saini, an energy efficiency expert and WHL Consulting partner. They visited the Northern Circuit, Coastal Tanzania and Zanzibar where they had a total audience of more than 215 participants from 140 different accommodation providers.

Shown above is a picture of the seminar in Zanzibar where a record 114 attendees were in attendance! Although the numbers seemed daunting the outcome was fantastic and worth the effort. On behalf of a participant of the training seminar in Zanzibar:

“I've talked to a few of the hoteliers who attended your workshop. They thought what you were teaching was really valuable to them and their development. You got nothing but PRAISE! Pat yourself on the back for me."

The purpose of WHL Consulting’s Market Access Program is to educate and provide the tools necessary for accommodation providers to want and be able to create hotel websites specifically geared to e-commerce and to want to be listed on whl.travel’s site.

The WHL project is supporting micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) accommodation and tour providers to successfully develop their market access to the global independent travel market. The start of the program began with building two whl.travel portals:

1.    http://tour-tanzania.com/
2.    http://holiday-zanzibar.com/

Two other portals for the Kilimanjaro and Arusha region covered by Zara Tours are still in construction.  The program also included a complete audit of the market readiness of MSMEs’ current tourism products called Market Readiness Assessment.

After collecting digital content that created high quality content for the market ready and nearly market ready MSMEs, the final step in the program is the Market Access Training Seminars (MATS) that provided tourism product providers with important information on the inner workings and importance of the Internet and e-commerce tourism.

WHL Consulting has been in discussion with TPSF about expanding the program to include areas in the West and the South. So watch this space!
