Work Begins Again in Tanzania for WHLC Market Access Program

After a nearly 9-month hiatus in work in Tanzania, WHL Consulting is set to revisit Tanzania to finish the ambitious Market Access Program in the country. The project is being managed and implemented by WHL Consulting's Africa partner Anjali Saini. The Tanzania tourism development program which is financed by the World Bank Private Sector Competitiveness Project and is being managed by the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation began 18 months ago and is the first time that the tourism SMEs in Tanzania have ever been audited for quality. The project targeted the 3 main destinations in Tanzania: The Northern Circuit, Coastal Tanzania (including Dar es Salaam) and Zanzibar. As the implementation began the scope of the territory was grossly underestimated and the numbers of SMEs swelled from official government databases. The original contract only enabled the team to complete about 2/3 of the total area and a renegotiation had to take place to issue a new contract.

This project is important to WHL Consulting, because this is where the intellectual development of the WHL Consulting Market Access Program was created with professionals from the World Bank. The team has been anticipating the completion of the project in order to demonstrate results such as have already been accomplished in Livingstone, Zambia.

The audit phase is set to be completed in July and the team anticipated to return in August to deliver the Market Access Training Seminars in August or September in Dar es Salaam, Moshi and Zanzibar.

The WHL Consulting Africa team are hugely excited to be back in beautiful Tanzania and working again to support the Tanzanian tourism sector and the large number of SMEs there. We know that this project will be a success, because the tourism assets of Tanzania are some of the best in the world!
