Africa Tourism Training Network Market SurveyCountry and region: Regional Project - Sub Sahara Africa, Africa RegionProject date: 6/12/2007 Client: IFC, Global Business School Network The GBSN program is designed to address the shortage of human capital and management capacity in the tourism industry in Africa by strengthening African tourism management training through a Tourism Training Network (TTN). The TTN will build the capacity of local training institutions and better align tourism training to the needs of the private sector. The goal of this programme is to increase the capacity of training institutions to create sustainable quality tourism management programmes that offer locally-relevant courses. This project was completed by Zachary Rozga in partnership with Dr. Anna Spenceley. To complete the project the team developed and designed three unique survey questionnaires for market research of tourism supply and demand for 9 African countries: Senegal, Cape Verde, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique, Zambia, South Africa, Ghana and Madagascar. The countries were selected to provide a sample of stable tourism economies, emerging tourism destinations and across the Western language groups (English, French and Portuguese) of Africa. Seperate questionnaires were developed to interview the Universities and trade schools, private sector operators (including privately owned SMEs and large chain hotels), public sector entities. Upon completion of the surveys we drafted and presented results and findings for the Global Business School Network based in the IFC Africa regional Headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa. Presented a strategy for the development of courses and the best delivery mechanisms for the African Association of Business Schools a newly formed advocacy group for Business Schools in Africa.
